What’s New in Until Dawn?

Until Dawn is hitting PS4 again next week but it’s not just a simple remaster. Ballistic Moon has not only lovingly rebuilt the game from scratch using Unreal Engine 5, but have brought with it a whole host of new features that will excite both long-time fans and newcomers.

The real stars of the show, however, are the visual upgrades: environments and character models have been completely redone, proving that a layer of paint can go some way in giving Life is Strange more realistic vibes.

One of the biggest changes introduced by the update is a new, over-the-shoulder camera angle that provides players with an entirely different perspective on some – most – events in the game.

In practice, the ideal outcome of this new camera control scheme is yet to be realized but it has been developed with gameplay in mind and hopes that fans can communicate even more tense situations similar to when they are playing what most superhumans adventure through.

A REMADE NARRATIVE, AND BEYOND

On top of those visual upgrades, the narrative pacing in Until Dawn has also been spruced up. As the prologue, it gives players a better understanding of what this family is like in their “normal” element and thus further impacts everything as things just keep getting worse. Sony insists these alterations will enrich the game’s already gripping narrative, and that it should give players an even greater escape to its spooky environs.

But that’s not all of the enhancements. When it comes to story, there are two new characters within the game with their sidequests (though there’s another NPC who looks like they should have a questline too if we’re being picky) and an additional helping of lore for those keen on gutting out more of Dark Souls’ grim world.

The game also adds some brand-spanking new collectibles in case you weren’t feeling challenged enough already by its ticking clock or tricky dungeons. Chief among the victims have been those original totems (crucial items that manipulated the game’s branching storylines) and hunters’ trophies. This will go on to ensure that even the ones who have played the game for hours find something new whenever they return.

Customization and New Mechanics

Until Dawn now adds some customization for the individual player, if they want a finer-tuned gameplay experience. The most distinctive of which appears to be the swapping out of the first game it-can-hear-you trope with a new Stay Calm ones component DidMount Video Comparison.

initial(this, $rootData); and That seems to be the idea: a different sort of nerves (nerves you will get plenty practice with during outages), hopefully promoting prudence against Siren’s myriad and cheap jump-scares.

A Horror Classic Reborn

When it was first released Until Dawn proved to be a sleeper hit and received critical acclaim for its unique narrative structure, environmental tension-buildup as well as the player’s impactful decision-making. The retooled version seeks to preserve the components that made fans fall in love with it but combines them with modern changes and upgrades.

Lakewood opens October 4, 2024, and we are thus well around to getting prepared for this modern-day retelling of a horror classic. Whether you’re replaying the game or checking it out for the first time, Until Dawn on PS5 and PC should quickly establish itself as one of those key horror titles that everyone has an opinion about/ a reference point to relive (or shake up) part in shaping how terrifying narrative-based games were over the past decade.
