ToggleAfter almost two decades since it came out to the PS2, Persona 3 is back in a wonderful remake by Junpei Soy (that’s a cool name) – Persona 3 Reload. Atlus hit the jackpot – its Feb. 2 game quickly turned into what could be their fastest-selling title in history, with a tight million going through registers last week alone.
The remake has been generally well received by critics for its visual update and improved quality-of-life features, but there is one omission in particular that leaves many a fan heartened.
Kanemaru: Excuse Me, If It Were Persona 3 Reload, There Might Not Be A Female Protagonist
Players were able to do that in Persona 3 Portable which launched for the PlayStation Portable back in 2009. This decision had a massive impact on the story, it even changed what music was offered. But as a whole, Persona 3 Reload does not include the female protagonist – the omission long-time series producer Kazuhisa Wada touched on in an interview with now-defunct Game Informer.
Said Wada: “The more we talked about it, the less likely it was.” ” The time and cost of development just wouldn’t have been sustainable. P3R has just been posted, and there is quite a player interest now, so it must also be released.

We would love to take P3R with fem protag and hype it! But, as much as we want so, the reality is that for how bad those localizations are with everything in portable mode we lose our best aspect of games portraying its character while at home. Periods are not viable right now, but… just can’t do it… I am deeply apologizing to all the fans who ever have thought maybe one day it would, but likely never.

Coming Soon: Episode Aigis
A release date for that game has not yet been announced, so while there’s probably a fair amount of disappointment about protagonist-less gameplay in the night-civilization shifts June 7 event at E3 gave fans something to look forward to.
Atlus is also releasing a new chapter, called The Answer: Episode Aigis (based on content from Persona 3 FES) for purchase separately ($9.99) on September 10. The new trailer, seen below, previews the appearance of Metis (Aigis’ sister,) who will join her sibling in traversing through the Abyss of Time.
Persona 3 Reload launched today on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (also available for free with XBOX Game Pass) Though her omission as the heroine will be a bit of a bummer, what is on its way still sounds like it would bring dimensions to the nostalgic RPG.
