COLOGNE, Germany – The PlayStation 5 Pro has been at the center of several leaks and rumors throughout 2024 as fans look ahead to what might be Sony’s first hardware iteration in its next-gen lineup.
Summer is coming to an end, and with no official announcement about the next-gen console yet some fans were worried that it would be delayed. Gamescom 2024 is happening right now in Cologne though and might have just given their hints.
Italy-based gaming site Multiplayer relayed this unfolded during one of its live streams, with a developer reportedly confirming that their game has been pushed back because the PS5 Pro will soon be announced.

The claim mirrors a statement made to me in private during Gamescom by an anonymous source who told us that they had received PS5 Pro specifications. One developer specifically interesting shared that he thought Unreal Engine 5 was going to be a lot more efficient on the new hardware over what is seen with PS5.
That said, this wasn’t from some household name studio so the PS5 Pro specs could have been doing rounds elsewhere in such instances as well which is hardly surprising, and had fans eating out of their mouths that an announcement was just around the corner now.

Sony might see a timeline like the one for the Sept. 7, 2016, announcement of PS4 Pro and two months later availability it had in place last generation as being feasible within its market planning. So as we all wait for Sony to announce what everyone has known in the industry for quite some time, here is a little round-up of some of the more credible leakage regarding PS5 Pro functionality.
- A 45% increase in Rasterized render performance thanks to a bigger GPU and faster memory.
- Faster ray tracing by up to 4x over the PS5.
- 34 A.I. Cores | 68 TOPS§, using a custom machine learning architecture, for PS Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony’s advanced upscaling equivalent to NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR
- PSSR, which improves upon the Temporal Anti-Aliasing Upscaling (TAAU) using ML, will work with HDR pipelines and without per-game training.
With the gaming world wary of getting too excited, it looks like we could have a multimedia monolith of excitement before 2024 comes around.
