Industry insider Jeff Grubb seems to think that Sony might have a State of Play event lined up by the end of September. The speculation, which went up on the Gaming Leaks And Rumors subreddit and was noticed by Novel-Editor4017, who cited Grubb comments from a recent YouTube stream.
“Earlier I heard rumors that it would have been a PlayStation State of Play, another Sony event but more recently what I’ve discussed with people is there is likely going to be one as part of September.” By the end of September, Not a Showcase but a State of Play.
While Grubb was not able to confirm that the long-rumored State of Play would finally debut everyone’s most desired hypothetical videogame product, a PlayStation 5 Pro, he did hint at an alternative platform on which Sony could make such major news.
The PS5 Pro announcement could be in the form of a single promotion video or blog post, as opposed to an event on its own.

The rumor also lines up with this recent comment from PlayStation Chairman Hiroki Totoki revealing that Sony doesn’t have any huge first-party titles set to launch before March 2025.
But the publisher has still been hard at work, releasing things like Concord recently and with future titles such as Astro Bot and LEGO Horizon Adventures. Despite these games, they pale in comparison to the astronomical levels of success found by Marvel’s Spider-Man or God of War.
This State of Play could be more third-party centric with a Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team reportedly in the works. It rather illustrates how Konami somehow managed to screw up the promotion for it in grand style before ever showing anyone had produced a game that’s starting to rustle some impressively large jimmies now.

There is also a title that could either be labeled Dragon Age: The Veilguard or Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Marvel Rivals which may seem to be based on the IP and Civilization 7 (which might just mean an updated version of Civ Rev), and even Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
There is still very much a console war going on with PlayStation and Xbox, but based on the financial opportunity surrounding Call of Duty you would have to presume it remains front-and-centre for both platforms.
While the State of Play is sure to feature these larger games, that will likely not be all it covers as an event reliant on highlighting smaller titles. The good news is fans of indie titles such as Hollow Knight Silksong could still have an opportunity for a reveal – particularly if the game doesn’t wind up appearing during today’s back-to-back Nintendo Directs.
PlayStation fans are excited for whatever Sony has planned and while we don’t know if there will be any big reveals or just smaller, hidden indie gems this possible State of Play could have something juicy on offer.
