Amid the impending launch of Until Dawn for PlayStation 5 and PC, Ballistic Moon has been dealing with a raft of layoffs. The studio is scheduled to launch the game on Oct. 4, a date that Palami will presumably keep even if he is no longer there in the name. Nevertheless, it presents an unwanted shadow for what should be a triumphant moment for both staff and clientele of Call of Duty fans.
Two developers have confirmed via their LinkedIn accounts that they were laid off from Ballistic Moon. However, there was no shortage of interest in an enhanced edition of Until Dawn. Game designer Cassy Cornish and tech designer Harry Williams both announced their departures from the project, with Williams saying he had been on it for two years while Cornish contributed to its development over a year.
Both the time and cause of these layoffs have yet to be determined, but whispers among the industry point towards Until Dawn going gold as a reason. If accurate, this shows just how fragile a lot of work can be in the gaming industry during a game’s final run-up to release.
Adding to Until Dawn’s troubles is that it will hit stores merely four days before the release of Konami and Hideo Kojima’s hotly anticipated Silent Hills 2 remake. ZC: That’s a bad time to come out – from industry observers, there’s concern that Until Dawn is going to have trouble standing out.

This is especially pertinent for Sony’s PlayStation Studios, which the company recently admitted to undergoing economic woes in conjunction with (shared by way of the ever-watchful eye at Bloomberg) that were noticed earlier this month by the publisher’s CFO Hiroki Totoki – making *Until Dawn* a pivotal job. To the contrary, financial constraints on Division I would be increased if one of these movies consumed a new motif and it turned into underperforming.
With just a few weeks left until the game’s release, all eyes will be darted toward Tiny Butterfly to see if they can rustle up enough scares and surprises for an otherwise crowded market. Until then, fans and industry heads will just have to hope that the game doesn’t fall further into a similar hole as Concord’s doomed spiral of death — or finally land in fame for both Ballistic Moon and Sony.
