Few people understand the unpredictable nature of the video game industry better than Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of one of the most beloved role-playing franchises ever.
Some might have thought that Sakaguchi would stay at Square Enix and forever mold his storied property but instead, he took the path less traveled, branching out to craft new standalone RPG adventures. Fantasian Neo Dimension was his mobile debut in 2021, and it concluded by gathering critical praise.
In 2024, Sakaguchi will bring this classic to consoles, and fans are speculating about what will have changed.
Over at the PlayStation Blog, they just provided an exclusive first look at Fantasian Neo Dimension that teases some improvements made to turn this mobile game into more of a proper PlayStation 5 experience.
The blog added: “*Fantasian Neo Dimension on PS5 with enhancements galore!” “Little has as big of an impact on the experience as the sky-high 4K resolution; it puts a new level of shine and polish to everything in this visually rich videogame world.
Additionally, it now comes with dual-language voice acting so you can forgo authentic Japanese dialogue or play the new English work.

It adds a new layer of immersion especially since the entire experience is fully voiced, bringing the characters to life and making them more interesting. And at last, an easier difficulty setting also allows fans of the genre to enjoy the game without its typical ruthless old-school JRPG challenge.
Features like this may seem typical of console ports, but it’s evident that the development team has poured their heart and soul into making Fantasian Neo Dimension a complete upgrade over its iOS version.
The blog also uncovered the pleasant tidbit that Switch owners can opt for their in-game soundtrack. Aside from the new work, players can listen to Sakaguchi’s back catalog of franchise-defining songs or throw it all onto a random playlist for an endearingly uncertain musical experience.
And the review of The Blog also praises the visual design:
The game has a world that was constructed from actual dioramas which were scanned in 3D using drones. This labor-intensive method resulted in more than 150 fully furnished dioramas that make up the game world, all meticulously painted by hand.
This commitment to detail means that Fantasian Neo Dimension is distinctive not only as an RPG but also as artwork, blending the elegance of traditional dioramas with state-of-the-art technology.
Fantasian Neo Dimension is looking like a must play title on consoles come launch, for any fans or newcomers. From its stunning visuals to its immersive soundscapes, and from the quality of life gameplay enhancements by which we already know it will offer a significant upgrade over Mistwalker’s previous efforts as well (well-aspected), Sakaguchi is set on making his mark in RPGs once again with this latest title.
