ToggleLollipop Chainsaw RePOP, in an age when visuals are often the be-all and all of gaming experiences…. is coming to Nintendo Switch. In a prepared announcement released earlier today, Dragami Games CEO Yoshimi Yasuda shared some juicy tidbits about what Switch owners can anticipate from this long-awaited makeover.
Switch Owners Get a Head Start
Yasuda clarified that the Nintendo Switch version of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be a port of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. An important upgrade for the Switch edition is a higher resolution of Full HD (FHD 1920 x 1080) compared to the original’s low resolution with only an HD (1280 x720).
The frame rate stays at 30fps, the same as on the original release but this resolution bump is a bonus for fans of the cult classic.
Visual Effects: In and Out
Although there are some trade-offs here, with the Switch version seeing an uptick in resolution. However, Yasuda said that some advanced visual effects – like screen space reflections – are “simply not achievable” on Switch and won’t be in the game.
Furthermore, some aspects are incomplete – such as the chainsaw marks when fighting. For example, players will see these effects during the boss fight with Zed but Dragami Games intends to have them fully implemented down the line.
Yasuda said that while the Switch has its limitations, this hasn’t prevented the team from optimizing it for each stage to ensure they can keep its overall quality of visuals when releasing on Nintendo’s platform.

A Cult Classic Gets a Worthy Upgrade
Pleasing to hear from those who loved the first Lollipop Chainsaw. The game’s distinctive look has held up remarkably well, though it was clear lost in translation that its initial visuals had been hamstrung by a limited budget. The sharper FHD resolution should no doubt serve to revitalize the game on Switch – an undeniably slicker way in which to experience it without losing sight of what made the original so appealing.
That means to allay any fear that the Switch version won’t quite be best-in-class in terms of visuals, feel free to compare it with PS3 or Xbox 360 original iterations. Dragami Games has put a good deal of care and effort into making this the best version it can be for Nintendo, especially when we’ve seen many other terrible ports come to Switch over recent years.
Dragami Games vs. Industry Giants
Among a sea of developers who could not care less about players on older, weaker hardware, Dragami Games is leading by example. How the few dedicated screens Nintendo showed apply to a quality experience of their game on Switch is oddly reassuring compared to how some big studios decide to treat theirs.
Rockstar Games are a case in point. Their lack of improvements in their recent port for the Switch of Red Dead Redemption left many fans feeling let down. Don’t even get me started on the disaster that was Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy -The Definitive Edition.
This is real proof of the commitment from Dragami Games to gaming in itself, where it does not see any platform dependent on how much additional revenue it can obtain. Of course, potential buyers should always exercise caution when seeking out reviews before purchase – though it seems that Dragami has made a solid effort to ensure Switch players have as pleasant an experience playing Earth Atlantis at home or on the go.
Second Thoughts: This Is A Developer Who Cares
If one thing can be gathered from Yasuda’s recent remarks is that Dragami Games wants to give their supporters the best experience. In the wake of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, it appears that such a studio does exist and they are working even on platforms that may not provide as much raw processing power.
With the release drawing closer, it is no surprise that excitement has been rising. If you’ve been with the franchise since day one or were late to the party, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP on Nintendo Switch offers up a fun-filled return to zombies, chainsaws, and characters like no other.
