THQ Nordic has confirmed that Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 15. This enhanced version feature improved visuals, better performance and more, in order to bring the apocalypse closer to current gen consoles.
Original Owners Get Them Free; a Win-Win
In a decision that should delight existing supporters, anyone with the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will receive their respective PS5 and with Series X/S versions as free bumps up top. You can then get back to being Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse at no additional charge.
In addition, for those who have not yet tried out the remastered version, THQ Nordic has a little special in store. The first exception, however, is that you can get it 50 percent off if you preorder it through October 14-a great deal on what remains one of the best action RPGs of all time.
So what does Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition get you that sets it apart from the earlier versions of the game?
The original Darksiders II launched in 2012, quickly becoming known as one of the top action RPGs of its day with a rich story, satisfying combat, and massive world. The enhancements have been made to appeal to the players who are now playing games on current gen hardware but never played Darksiders II.

SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS
All DLC Included: Deathon the Deathinitive Edition contains all additional content of Darksiders II, whichmeans for you that there is a seamless fusion between the main game and itsDLCs. It also shares a decent amount of in-game content – side quests, bonus missions, etc. giving players over 30 hours to play the game.
Improved Visuals: The new look is snazzier than ever! A rising tide lifts all boats, as they say! The environments have been upgraded, as well as character models and lighting effects, meaning everything looks cleaner and better to help with the immersion.
Rebalanced Gameplay – The overall game balance has been readjusted for a more enjoyable level while still providing a challenge when it comes to combat difficulty and the distribution of loot. This keeps the action smoother and more enjoyable than ever.
On PS5, the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback greatly enhances the immersion. The vibration of the controller we felt with every swipe of Death’s scythe, the crashing impact foe strikes and environmental blowback, delivering a much more palpable relationship to events happening onscreen.
Additionally, modern SSD technology is up to 100 times faster than current mechanical hard drives and will virtually eliminate load times in your games giving you a smooth transition between levels.

A Look Back at Darksiders II
However, when Darksiders II launched it was one of the ideal games to be considered top of its class for that era, this had so much to do with how great everything looked and felt about it. With a purported development budget of $50 million, the game stands among some of the most expensive video games ever made, rivaling Half-Life 2 as well as recent smash hit Black Myth: Wukong.
The time-spanning, genre-straddling sands of Darksiders by contrast eschews fidelity to any one culture or epoch in favour of a vast so-called “open world” packed with puzzles, explore-stuff, and punch-lots-of-things, headed up by Death;
second of four ominous horsepersons hoping to clear his sucky possibly-misled-about War-brother’s name while he tries not to knock down the zombie Tower Of Babel. The mixture of hack-and-slash gameplay, the roleplay game mechanics, and overall beautifully designed worlds certainly helped Darksiders II catch the eye.
Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition originally launched in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, came to Switch last year. But after 10 years, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are set to get the definitive edition of an otherworldly one-of-a-kind survival experience.
What’s Next For The Darksiders Series?
The franchise continued to grow over the years – and Darksiders II remains a favorite among fans. Two years ago in 2018, we got Darksiders III, a parallel sequel to the earlier two sets hundreds of years later and sending another Horseman of the Apocalypse out on his/her quest – this time it was Fury. There are also whispers of future entries in the series, though nothing formal yet.
Still, there could be pleasure in returning to-or discovering for the very first time-the Darksiders II universe with a fresh next-gen sheen. Unless you are doing the free upgrade, in which case add it to your calendar for October 15.
This way you can experience the epic journey of Death and redemption if you haven’t yet! Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be $29.99 on PS5 and XBSX/S.
