Tomorrow will mark a way unexpected turn of events for gamers when the ESRB rates Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PC and PlayStation 5. With a T for Teen rating, everything seems to be more or less the same as the original, released on PlayStation 4 in 2017 and PC back in 2020. But why a remastered edition – and why now?
Horizon Zero Dawn has been removed from the Playstation Plus library, with speculation mounting up ever since. This begged the question of whether Sony was gearing up for a remastered release. And hey, turns out those suspicions were correct. But the timing of this remaster has raised some eyebrows.Considering Pillars of Eternity had an excellent PC port and a DRM-free version available at launch on GOG, it’s questionable whether this new release is necessary so soon.
So, what’s the deal? It could be that Sony wants to take advantage of The PlayStation 5 and the many new technologies it provides. While it is not possible to say for certain what the PS5 would be capable of, we expect that the PS5 will have far more advanced performance specifications.
4K resolution at 60FPS would likely be a remote possibility given the current hardware limitations. So, this might practically be a tactic to exhibit the robustness of the PlayStation 5 Pro in an offer to get more customers who actively have not planned on spending that amount of money for the console.
This might be too soon in the PlayStation 5 lifespan for this remaster. Some will likely say that it is more of a fit for PS6 or years out from now. It may also be the last gasp, with which Sony rakes in some money before trying a similar update at premium price for sales of the PS5 Pro.
It rings similar to The Last of Us Part II Remastered case. The same way, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered could get a backlash from fans who view it as nothing else but a money-grab. That said, Guerrilla Games might show an improved improvement that justifies remaster to critics and players.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is starting to look like a very real announcement, if that ESRB rating means what it suggests. Fans will need to just wait and see if this remastered edition lives up to the lofty expectations set by its predecessors, for now. We will be keeping our eyes peeled for further developments as we approach launch!

Will there be a Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster?
Sadly, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is something that continues to be unconfirmed for the time being. Taking the PlayStation 4 by storm in 2017, the game was a critical darling for its open-world action and jaw-dropping graphics.
While there have been rumblings and fan chatter around a potential remaster or remake, especially on the precipice of upcoming sequel Horizon Forbidden West, Guerrilla Games and Sony have provided no official confirmation. A remaster of the first game might make sense with how popular the sequel is and the improvements in technology since then, but until we get official news this is all speculative.
Is Horizon Zero Dawn a PS5 game?
Horizon Zero Dawn is not exclusive to the PS5; it was previously released on the PlayStation 4. It is, though, playable on the PS5 through backward compatibility. It has faster load times for PS4 games, like Horizon Zero Dawn. There was also a PS5 upgrade for the game within it, getting better visuals as well as some performance boosts to help the game run smoother on Sony’s latest console.
Will Horizon Zero Dawn come to PC?
Horizon Zero Dawn did in fact come to PC. The game arrived on Windows PCs in August 2020, outside the dedicated PlayStation platform for which it was originally developed. The PC version has improved resolutions (up to 4K) and supports ultra-wide monitors; it also includes new graphical modes for higher reflection quality, more detailed contact shadows, and long-range shadow resolution.
This version is refreshable by players who have high-end PCs and fully optimizes the experience. This was part of the wider strategy that Sony had to take some of its flagship IPs and get them out to a broader audience.
Is Horizon Zero Dawn 3 confirmed?
There is no confirmation of Horizon Zero Dawn 3 at this time. In early 2022, Psygnosis released Horizon Forbidden West, and Guerrilla Games is continuing to focus on expanding the franchise. Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn and has not been accompanied by any launch roadmap from Guerrilla Games.
Details about a potential third installment and its cast have not yet been officially revealed. That being said, when taking the series popularity and success into consideration, it is entirely possible that we could see a sequel of some sort in later development, however only time will tell; to which fans must wait for any official word.
Did they remaster Until Dawn?
Until Dawn is not being remastered. The game from 2015 was originally a horror-adventure PS4 exclusive that earned accolades for its story branching and decision-making mechanism. And though it was successful, there has yet to be an official remaster or re-release on more modern platforms. Until Dawn still remains playable in its original form for now. Meanwhile, PS4 players are still banging the drums for a sort of Red Dead Online remaster or next-gen upgrade – although nothing has been confirmed just yet.
