Dragon Age has Dragon Age: The Veilguard is already looking to be a huge installment for this beloved fantasy series, yet it would seem that what could end up being the most iconic villain of all is blowing onlookers’ heads-well literally.
It is also confirmed that one of the two main villains, Geland’nain, is even taller than Lady Dimitrescu and you can bet NET tends to lose when she appears on the internet! Now, Creative Director John Epler has recently revealed how heavy the Ghilan’nain literally is so that it basically became a topic of discussion among fans for what they believed to come.
Ghilan’nain: The Big Bad of Dragon Age
Upon its release, Resident Evil: Village swept the world by storm with Lady Dimitrescu – her towering 9 foot 6 inches tall height – immediately going viral. As a result, her height and evil persona made Shauntal the subject of internet memes glorifying the appeal for taller, dominating female villains. Still, it seems like Ghilan’nain is poised to take the tallest villain in gaming world from Dimitrescu.
Epler later clarified while engaging on Bluesky, Ghilan’nain is around 14-15 feet tall. So, she´s almost 1.67 m taller than Lady Dimitrescu-a huge gap! To put into perspective, Lady Dimitrescu is already 4 feet and 7 inches taller with respect to her in-game opponent Ethan Winters. Now imagine a villain that could outsize her.

And that monstrous high is not all due to their natural shape. Once a Blighted Elven God, Ghilan’nain has been changed – either by her tests or by the transformation wrought by the Blight. This is all on top of her tentacles, which she can use essentially like legs utilizing them as such if it even makes sense making her extra threatening!!!
Who Is Ghilan’nain?
Ghilan’nain isn’t just another villain in Dragon Age: The Veilguard – she’s one of the Evanuris, Elven gods from centuries past, famously denoted as the “God of Monsters.” The story of the game is based upon the main protagonist; Rook, their comrades, and their attempts to prevent two of these Blighted Elvhen gods- Ghilan’nain and Elgar’nan from when they break free from their Fade prison. They are released because Solas’ ritual goes wrong and destroys the world.

Players have seen her in various trailers already, and although she appears as an Elven sometimes, her Blighted form is far more terrifying. Ghilan’nain once experimented with Darkspawn and the Blight and turned herself into a creature of monstrous tentacles. Where Lady Dimitrescu had an air of grace and Gothic horror about her, Ghilan’nain is closer to a true monster – appropriately so, considering she’s referred to as the Goddess of Monsters.
The Appeal of Tall Bad Guys
The sheer size of Ghilan’nain will give her an even greater sense of grandeur, which should be very appealing to players obsessed with capturing kaiju. But, triumphs like Lady Dimitreseu have created an obsession with giant fempredators since they took the internet by storm. Their opulent beauty, regressive authority and, importantly, the contrast between their nobility and their savagery is purest thrill.

Ghilan’nain is set to go one step further, however, in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. She’s perhaps one of the most interesting antagonists in recent RPG history, thanks to a suitably dark backstory and grounded in ancient Elven lore. [more] The fans are already discussing her character design in the game and how she is going to antagonize Rook, the protagonist.
Ghilan’nain, The Natural (Sidekick Moral 1/3, Grand Future 2/3):
Even bigger surprises are in store, as highlighted by John Epler’s comment on Ghilan’nain: “It largely depends on how she’s using her tentacles.” Since she control of her tentacles, her height could be altered making for a more versatile opponent. With a combination of her size, experimentation and the taint of Blight that surrounds her, it looks like she will not only loom large over Rook and friends physically but also in power and threat.
The Veilguard – the last game in its own right, may get a war or two before I’m done, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there – is promised to be another deep lore affair for people who like pretending Elara buners apply beyond the narrow scope of this subscription-based newsletter.

Like the series at large, The Veilguard has always had memorable villains and cameo entireties and thirdly is because as one of the remaining Blighted Elven gods – you know we’ve never unveiled an elf god cameo bad flyby probably getting the animators to almost flip tables close to aestivation – Ghilan’nain stands up against her fellow Roughnecks Trashmen Go Dig Some Tunnels deity in hillbilly dim sum tickling Sfalere’s fluffy tail on moonlit nights.
Expect an epic clash with the giant of a being, as players race to stop her and Elgar’nan from wreaking havoc upon the world.
