ToggleIs Blizzard developing a StarCraft shooter? The rumors are now flying and fans of the legendary series could not be happier. Blizzard could be working on an unannounced StarCraft shooter with small team led by Far Cry, X-Men designer Dan Hay – reports
However, Blizzard then announced a different StarCraft shooter in development now and it hasn’t confirmed that this is the same project. No one should be surprised that a StarCraft shooter was once reportedly in development, though other than jaded fools like us who just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary, we’re played out on this trope.

First announced in 2006, this game was supposed to be Blizzard’s PS3 and Xbox 360 answer to such titles as Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell – a stealth-based adventure following Terran Dominion ghost Nova Terra. Ultimately, the project was cancelled in 2014 by Blizzard after years of anticipation, marking StarCraft: Ghost as one of the most well-known cases of “vaporware” to ever hit the gaming industry.
But a StarCraft: Ghost Resurrection?
So could this new project an old star rise from oblivion: SC Ghost? It’s possible. As a result, Nova Terra remains something of a fan-favorite character who even appeared in StarCraft II for her own campaign DLC titled Nova Covert Ops. Through this expansion, players got a closer look at her aristocratic background along with quite the complicated relationship with the Terran Dominion, which was further expanding the lore that was originally set to be explored in StarCraft: Ghost.

In other words, revisiting the StarCraft: Ghost concept would make a Blizzard game that took almost as long to be made as Metroid Dread, another game that was first conceived decades ago. If a modern Nova-starring StarCraft shooter is in the works, it also has another special job to do: provide an exit for fans concerned about the legacy of their beloved series while offering an entirely new generation of players a unique entry point into Blizzard’s universe.
Blizzard’s New Take On Shooters
Naturally, this new project could be any number of things and might not StarCraft: Ghost at all. The way Blizzard develops games has changed drastically since the early 2000s. You see, when StarCraft: Ghost was first in development Blizzard was farming out a lot of work to external studios. Slightly more than a decade later, Blizzard is a titan in the shooter space with Overwatch 2. Given that sort of skill set in-house, perhaps Blizzard is working on a reimagining of what a StarCraft shooter might represent to audiences today.

The gaming world has changed too. As the market is already absolutely flooded with multiplayer live-service games, Blizzard might go for something a bit more narrative-driven and centered around story and characters. Both the single-player and story-based nature of the shooter, coupled with the relatively small-scope multiplayer modes could avoid StarCraft shooter being too much like its competition.
Everything else we know about the game remains an unconfirmed rumor/fantasy until Blizzard actually announces this project vaccine. Based on that and fan enthusiasm for finally getting a shooter set in the StarCraft universe, it could be a allow time before the end user sees a Blizzard-developed title.
