Ringmaster The TeaseStar Is Dota 2’s Newest HeroAfter years of “Gaben, give us new heroes,” Ringmaster slides into the spotlight with style and grace. entertainment Posted: Feb. But there is a catch: Ringmaster was launched without an Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade, which many heroes have as part of their kits in the game. Players are buying the item in any case, and some of them live to regret it… at a pretty penny.
Ringmaster was an unannounced release on Aug. 23 as part of Valve’s lead-up to The International (TI) season So although the culprit support hero does qualify as a stylish arrival to any given battlefield, he was without certain signature traits of most Dota 2 heroes at this point:
Hero Facets and -more egregiously Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade. This is particularly odd since the Scepter appears as a recommended late-game item in Valve’s default build for Ringmaster, seeing many farms up 4,200 golds only to realize that it doesn’t grant the expected benefit.
Nearly 5,000 Ringmaster players have already purchased the Scepter according to Dotabuff — they simply are not aware of this item being problematic with the hero as Valve’s default builds guide them down that path. This mistake points to a larger problem in Dota 2 which is leaning on default item builds, instead of adjusting those items based upon how your game is developing.
However, early worries that more than half of Ringmaster users were succumbing to this got a closer look using the stats out there and thankfully it’s not quite as high. That story has inspired anger in players, including many who put their faith into Dota Plus – Valve’s stat service premium! Gosh darn it! And one that – more or less at this point everyone agrees is well past needing legit and regular updates on the stats it provides.

Said one player, “I would blindly follow [Dota Plus] when I was getting back into the game a year ago at this point and now my muscle memory has to actively go against skilling some dumb stuff I don’t need.”
Aghanim’s Scepter Upgrades and Hero Facets should make their way into the game in some future patch for Ringmaster, as well. The current state of things serves as a solemn reminder to all Dota 2 players though: Never build by default. Instead, think about what helps your hero item-wise in each game. While you wait for those nerfs, hang onto your gold (or look at the other priority buy) as that pick just won’t be useful right now.
