The Fallout games enjoy a resurgence of sorts now and then, mostly due to whatever Amazon TV show is making the rounds at that given time – so fandom was already soaking in any prior experience with the series or playing more 76 as it stands.
With no Fallout 5 in sight, there is always something happening – and soon you’ll be able to become the monster itself as a major new update allows for play as an actual Ghoul.
Ghouls in the Fallout universe are generally reviled and seen as lesser people, despite being potentially useful if not outright members of society.

As a result, the next DLC where players will go “ghoul” is highly anticipated. Of course, this goes beyond just some cosmetic work – being a Ghoul is going to change how the world interacts with you quite drastically.
During an interview with TheGamer, Fallout 76 creative director Jon Rush said that playing as a Ghoul will affect NPC interaction and have consequences for story decisions. “Life will be different if you are a Ghoul,” Rush said, alluding to the fact that there will likely be content only available from playing as an irradiated character.
If implemented, it has laid the foundation for new story routes and gameplay avenues that could turn the Ghoul option into more than just a reskinned one. If the update goes down well, we might even end up seeing Fallout 5 introduce a similar feature.
Fallout 76 has a long road ahead of it, and the waiting room for this update is shaping up to be an interesting one. Ghoul is just the most recent of many transformations to keep Fallout fresh as we all wait for what’s up next in the mainline series.
