ToggleFans of the game were excited to get their hands on its first major story expansion when Starfield: Shattered Space was announced by Bethesda at June 11, 2023. Releasing this fall, the DLC will offer a fresh new way to play with an element of horror as players are called upon to respond to a distress signal on board what looks like an empty ship. However, the question on everyone’s mind as they count down to launch is likely: Is Shattered Space a free game or something you have purchase?
After paying $60 or more for Starfield you’ll have to pay even more if you want the game’s DLC.
Even though a lot of games provide free DLCs ( such as The Witcher 3’s “Skellige’s Most Wanted” or No Man’s Sky:Foundation Update ) – *Starfield : Shattered Space* won’t be the case. This expansion is sold separately except for owners of Starfield’s Premium Edition. The game won’t come with the base version of the title and neither will be accessible to GamePass subscribers for free.

That’s something Bethesda fans are familiar with. Skyrim and Fallout 4 received multiple paid DLCs with a large amount of new content, and Starfield appears to be carrying the torch. This should make it a no-brainer purchase for many players, even if the fact that you have to pay more wouldn’t come as welcome news right now.
How Much will Starfield: Shattered Space Cost?
For now, Bethesda has not released the price of Shattered Space. But for those who didn’t purchase the Premium Edition, you can always upgrade your game to said version at $34.99 This update confers access to the upcoming Shattered Space module –

as well as other perks like getting your hands on an Equinox Laser Rifle. We don’t know the specifics of how much the DLC will cost on its own, but we should find out more when Gamescom is held next month.
And with the inclusion of future DLCs already ruled out beyond Shattered Space, those looking to player every Starfield expansion Bethesda has planned for in all likelihood required additional purchases at some point.
What Starfield DLCs Are On The Way?
Although Shattered Space is the first meaty expansion, it’s unlikely to be the last. As mentioned before, Bethesda has a habit of selling these as collections — something which they have done with past games. Therefore, if you are patient and not in a hurry to get your hands on it, then there is the possibility that Shattered Space might come as part of an all-encompassing expansion bundle at a later stage.
That being said, unless Bethesda decides to entice the newcomers with a free sampling of what Starfield has in store — which isn’t an impossibility at some point further down the road — buying either this expansion solo or upgrading yourself straight into that Premium Edition seem like your only means of getting tickets for boarding as soon new chapters are available so you can take-off on day one.
