ToggleSquare Enix Might Be Changing The Development Of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 – One of the most anticipated upcoming games that we all, as gamers and fans have been waiting for years is to hear some kind of update or development news on the third and presumably final (hope) part in a brand-new trilogy.
Speaking with CG World Japan, Naoki Hamaguchi (director of FF7R) suggested that the final chapter may even switch from Unreal Engine 4 to its more advanced sequel: “It gets a little harder as you think about the next title – and as technology evolves…”
A New Engine for a New Era?
Square is currently weighing up whether to move the game on from Unreal Engine 4 or not, Hamaguchi confirms. The option isn’t finalized, however, the potential change should result in some performance and visual benefits to Onrush. Faster development might come thanks to the advanced Unreal Engine 5 tech as well, fans hoping for such features.
The series developer also offered an update on the situation, noting in a Twitter account that their ‘most important task’ was to finish off the trilogy a fast and smooth manner without being forced into making sacrifices to quality. According to his post, that might be key in achieving these goals or not.

Eyeing a 2027 Release Date
Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase said earlier this year the third installment is aimed towards a 2027 release—at which point, it will be the original PlayStation game’s 30th anniversary. The project has taken closer to a decade than seven hours, so the fans are pleased that at least this bit ends in very much an old-style date for folks who have been listening and watching.—TechCrunch
According to Kitase, the team’s goal is quality over all else: “We want to assure everyone that Part 3 will be better than anyone can imagine while also not sacrificing production time just so it reaches your sweet spot.” This continuity within the development team, that is carried over from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, should speed things up and keep quality levels as high has been set in previous entries.

The Return of Queen’s Blood
In other breaking news, Hamaguchi verified that not only will the Queen’s Blood card game return in Part 3; but it was a popular addition to the remake series. “Fans keep asking us for another one, and we are planning to release an updated version of Queen’s Blood that will be better than ever,” said Hamaguchi.
Nobuo Uematsu’s Return
Meanwhile, fans of the series have even more to rejoice about as legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu returns once again to compose a new main theme for this last game. With Uematsu behind the musical scenes, that specific depth of emotion present in past games is likely to be brought back to life.
The Victory Of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The other portion of the remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was released on February 29 for PlayStation 5 to impressive reviews. The potential of a new engine, the revival of fan-favorite mini-games, and legendary music from Nobuo Uematsu could make it an undoubtedly epic conclusion to this beloved saga.
