Helldivers 2 is releasing its biggest update yet, “Escalation of Freedom,” bringing new missions, objectives, enemies, and planets based on player feedback. The community has shown strength against threats like the Automatons and Terminid. Reflecting on the six months since launch, the developers are excited to introduce this major update, welcoming both veteran and new players to the Helldivers universe.
Go on a Super Helldive
The article highlights the introduction of a new difficulty level, Combat Rating 10: Super Helldive, in the game Helldivers 2. This level is designed to be the most challenging yet, offering players intense battles and greater rewards. Additionally, new mission objectives and larger enemy outposts have been added, providing more variation and new Super Sample rewards. These outposts require strategic coordination to overcome. New players can also enjoy the new mission objectives on other difficulty levels, ensuring they don’t miss out on the fun.
New Enemies & Dangerous Swamps
Escalation of Freedom: New Threats and Dangerous Swamps:
Prepare for new challenges in the Escalation of Freedom that will test the Helldivers’ strategic skills.
The Impaler Returns: This formidable foe from the original Helldivers is back, bringing new challenges. You can’t outrun the bugs with the Impaler around—it’s big, destructive, and demands confrontation.
Introducing the Spore Charger: A new addition to the Terminid ranks, the Spore Charger is even more terrifying than the regular Charger. Shrouded in fog, it remains hidden until it’s dangerously close.
Terminid Alpha Commander: This upgraded Brood Commander is larger, more aggressive, and quickly calls in reinforcements.
Automatons Expansion: The Automatons’ forces are growing with the inclusion of the powerful Rocket Tank, along with other surprise bots that will test your mettle.
Exploring the Swamps: The swamps are now more treacherous than ever. Rolling fog, untamed flora, and blackened trees create an eerie atmosphere. Limited visibility means your flashlight is essential, as enemies could be lurking anywhere in the dense undergrowth.
Under the Hood
The Escalation of Freedom update includes important changes to address grief kicking in Helldivers 2. While we hope players engage with the game in good faith and sportsmanship, we recognize that some use team kicking to grief others.
To combat this, we’ve implemented a new system: if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host, bringing all the team’s loot from their previous session. These items can be collected before extraction. The squad doing the kicking will receive a chat message notifying them of the kick, but their loot remains unchanged.
With these changes, all players can keep the loot collected during missions, ensuring no one loses out. We are committed to enhancing the player experience and promoting healthy, cooperative gameplay.
Additionally, we’re introducing several quality of life upgrades with the Escalation of Freedom, including major fixes to the social menu to make diving with friends easier.
We believe this update will be packed with exciting additions, long-awaited improvements, and plenty of surprises to discover. Helldivers 2: Escalation of Freedom launches on August 6!
