Remedy Assures Fans: Control and Alan Wake Deals with Annapurna Secure Even After Staff Walkout
Following the bombshell departure of all 25 employees at Annapurna Interactive, Remedy Entertainment has moved to reassure that their upcoming Control 2 and Alan Wake projects are still on track.
The news that Annapurna was in staffing crisis rippled around the gaming community, leading to concerns regarding the fate of a number of high-profile partnerships. Remedy communications director Thomas Puha clarified the situation on Twitter.

So many of you are emailing about the Annapurna news (sorry for what must be going on to all involved). Thank you for your care! However, the worry was quickly solved when Puha tweeted…” Remedy’s deal for Control 2, including Alan Wake and Control AV rights, is with Annapurna Pictures, and we are self-publishing Control 2.
The exodus of Annapurna Interactive staff set off alarm bells, but Remedy is contracted to Annapurna Pictures’ film division. The relationship also involves Annapurna Pictures co-financing Control 2 itself, and while the studio secures film and TV rights to both Control and Alan Wake for adaptations it creates, full control over creative direction and IP of the games will be retained by Remedy.
It is worth noting that this deal also makes it possible for Control and Alan Wake, as well as the expanding Remedy Universe to be adapted in other entertainment formats such as film, television or even theater (within Annapurna’s future entertainment spectrum). So there are likely some early pre-production work happening on Control or Alan Wake shows or films, since potentially despite the internal turmoil going on at Annapurna Interactive, these projects have progressed nonetheless.
However, the timing of such reassurance is important. While many praised Remedy’s new release Alan Wake 2, the game has reportedly underperformed, leading to renewed worries about the developer’s financial health.
When the fate of those massive releases directs so many of the developments that come after it in such a large industry, its difficult not to assume Remedy might be coming to its wits end […] Linking with Annapurna Pictures has opened where Remedy can go, but they’ve still been working on other major projects like their first live-service game, Project Condor and the potential Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes.
Notably, the video game division Annapurna Interactive is distinct from Annapurna Pictures. This might mean that the Interactive division is due for some restructuring in the near future, but it does not look like this will affect any film and media rights to PropertyrightsControl or Alan Wake Annapurna Pictures.
So, it seems Remedy’s creative vision for Control 2 and whatever else is yet to come, remains uncompromised. Still, fans and industry insiders will have their eyes trained on Annapurna as it pulls through its staffing firestorm to see how those inevitable changes ripple throughout upcoming teams.
