Microsoft’s collaborative relationship with Square Enix may be more fruitful than we thought, and a potential bombshell in the gaming space has emerged.
Speculation hit overdrive today when Twitter user ZakkenKloot shared a juicier morsel from the most recent episode of the XNC podcast. Well, MAGG has announced this during the show:
Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to Xbox before the trilogy concludes, and more
The news coincides with the earlier rumor from back in January where Jez Corden said on The Xbox Two filled if you’re into this kind of stuff:
I have evidence – although circumstantial so far that discussions around Final Fantasy VII for Xbox are happening.

Final Fantasy VII Remake, when is it for Xbox? The original game was a huge financial success for Square Enix and Sony, the same can’t be said for its follow-up; Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. But as part of a lineup with other underperforming titles like Final Fantasy XVI and Foamstars, it wasn’t where Square Enix wanted to be in terms of sales.
In the wake of that less-than-great news, word continues to swirl around an industry rumor suggesting Square Enix now plans on taking a wider approach towards multi-platform releases. This maneuver has popularly led to murmurs of several Final Fantasy titles landing on Xbox, ranging from the likes of a hypothetical version of both Final Fantasy VII Remake and more recently XIV.
Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox Series X|S, an announcement they made before the shift in strategy. Final Fantasy VII Remake on Xbox, however? That’s another tale. The fact that the game is so closely tied with PlayStation – given just how well it’s done on those systems over time – suggests a big traditional exclusivity period for Sony.
A) Except that exclusivity might only be temporary, and/orB) Square Enix may have re-negotiated their contract with Sony. If nothing else, it should clear the way to let Xbox One and PC owning masses finally have a crack at one of time’s most iconic RPGs.
That is, of course nothing but speculation until we hear something more from Square Enix. Regardless of whether that happens, however, it could set up a future-gen war between PlayStation and Xbox just as the two sides seemed to be getting on better than ever.
