Remember Fairgame$? Most people have never heard of the title. Unveiled as part of the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Fairgame$ is the first game from Haven Studios – Raymond’s development outfit in Montreal.
The concept for the game, which combines co-op heist action with PvPvE elements, was solid.tf2demo players would have been part of elaborate traps and pitted against other teams in a bid to grab money. It has still been given a frosty reception, though, with critics decrying it as “generic” and even more harshly “tone-deaf.
Fairgame$ also has to deal with being smothered in the shadow of Concord, another PlayStation release recently dropped. Concord was only just launched less than two weeks ago to a wave of very bad reviews and has now been taken offline by Sony, with refunds given to anyone who bought it.

The nature of that failure storyline is concerning given Fairgame$, as both games share an oddly similar issue: muted reveal and swift backlash, albeit for Concord.
Haven Studios, which is responsible for Fairgame$, was also providing support to Concord besides Firewalk Studios. This overlap has many gamers concerned that the same fate could befall Fairgame$ as experienced by Concord.
Sony did nothing to squash these fears has just fueled the fire for more speculation on whether or not Fairgame$ will come out.

Concord’s failure was also addressed in a recent Games Industry MicroCast, with Christopher Dring and James Batchelor offering their thoughts on why the game struggled. Fairgame$ came up, and Dring said he’d “bear in mind some quiet internal good vibes about” the game. Per him, “If the spin has any cab belted in tight’ that this is just cautious about what’s coming up next.
While it would be reassuring to hear that from an inside track, skepticism is high. The similarities between Fairgame$ and Concord raise questions about Sony’s good judgment on this occasion and whether the company is courting failure of a familiar kind.
However, if internal feedback is truly positive and the game has been received so well, why does Fairgame$ feel left out when compared to its peers in terms of how much attention or promotion it’s gotten by comparison?
Return To FlightDring and Batchelor theorized that Sony may have seen the Concord crash coming months before it happened, but released the game anyway. So, if that is true could Sony be making the same mistakes with Fairgame$? Hopefully, Haven Studios and Tales fans alike get to see that good feedback turn into a strong launch in the future and maybe even some lessons are taken from the failures of old.
Fairgame$ may not have more to offer. Is their newfound sense of optimism a glimmer of hope or just another way to discuss the inevitable failure that awaits? Only time will tell.
