ToggleThat seems like a physical release game-changer, no?
Nintendo may have just silently released the game-changer of a physical release that might reveal something huge about its strategy going forward.
As per Nintendo Life, some fortunate people have located their cartridges of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to already convey the Booster Course Pass with them – without downloading specific codes. For the uninitiated, this is a big deal as you usually need to download DLC even when buying physical copies of games.
Additionally, a $24.99 Booster Course Pass for the Nintendo eShop will also be eligible at no extra charge to all those with a subscription as well As such, some players – particularly younger ones who play under a family plan – may already have content like this available to them without having to buy in.
What’s Behind This Release?
This one, oddly enough, is believed to have been seen somewhere in Southeast Asia. Did Nintendo end up having to do this due to limited eShop availability in some areas? Or maybe it is linked to fluctuating internet quality in these regions? No matter what brought this move about we could see a shift in how Nintendo is looking at things going forward.

Nintendo could be gauging interest in physical releases that include all DLC on the cart going forward. Modern games are just too big to fit on a single Nintendo Switch cart, especially from third-party developers – but this is hardly new territory for the House of Mario.
A Glimpse into the Future?
Nintendo itself has a track record of making sure its first-party titles are whole on the cartridge, but that trend hasn’t always been consistent as each new console came about. Games like Super Smash Bros. Mario Kart 8, for instance, had downloadable content (DLC) even during its Wii U days; however, to have this bundled with a physical release on the Switch is quite surprising.
As the gaming industry moves more and more to digital distribution, may this be a suggestion for a future market for physical games where you get all expansions/DLC? Even if it’s only in limited runs and is priced higher, there may be a large enough group of fans who crave those full physical editions.
The information Nintendo has everything on one can give hope for more. We’ll have to wait and see if this becomes a trend or more isolated case, but it’s certainly got the gaming community talking.
