Sony has finally peeled the curtains off an announcement gamers had been speculating on for months; PlayStation 5 Pro. The chatter had been growing for more than a year, but it exploded within the last couple of weeks. Last week alone, a major Sony announcement seemed imminent pending last Wednesday’s PlayStation State of Play event at 2 pm PT.
Yesterday, Sony officially confirmed that a short PS5 hardware presentation would be taking place on the 7th of this month. Many assumed that it would be the PS5 Pro, and indeed nothing was official until the lead architect of the PlayStation 5 Mark Cerny took to the stage.
The presentation began with Cerny reflecting on the original PlayStation 5 design and innovations created by Sony. And with it, was the new standard of realism and speed in a next-gen console – bringing cutting-edge components into play.
In fact, according to Cerny, further power would be necessary in response to developer feedback on what was required for triple-A gaming experiences at the highest possible level without any concessions.
This brings us the PlayStation 5 Pro, a significantly improved version of its predecessor. With up to 45% faster rendering, advanced Ray Tracing, and a brand new AI-driven technology that boosts game resolution like never before, it has the muscle of next-gen. Essentially, the PS5 Pro speaks for something like 1.7 times as much per second compared to its predecessor. The PlayStation Pro model will also feature Wi=Fi 7, and VRR, and be capable of gaming in the full 8K glory.
The show closed out with the announcement of a PlayStation 5 Pro arriving on November 7, 2024, for $699.99.
