Sony is hinting that it’s working on many prominent remasters for the PlayStation 5 and its rumored PlayStation 6, if remarks from a Nixxes Software employee are any indication. After news last month of a Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered edition for PS5 and PC, the internet is abuzz with speculation about which other beloved PlayStation franchises are up for an HD upgrade next. PlayStation fans have a lot to be excited about if recent reports are any indication.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 6 Remasters Teased By Nixxes Software
Excitement has swept through the gaming world after a LinkedIn post by a Nixxes Software developer recently surfaced. They did note that the post refers to a forthcoming Horizon Zero Dawn remaster rather than something bigger like a new Killzone or a “new SOCOM”, with the former being the studio’s first big PlayStation content project only. The post says, “Nixxes Software’s first big PlayStation content project is still in development, after 5 PC ports of Playgame title series [PutnamCS posts]”.

While this could seem like a Horizon Zero Dawn-specific statement, fans are now speculating that Nixxes may actually have more on the way. Since there is a clear focus on this being their “First” baby studio, they will be working on many more remasters. This is in line with Nixxes’ output and previous statements from the company.
In a video interview posted in June 2023, Nixxes representative Coen Frauenfelder said the studio was “increasingly focusing on remasters. Historically known for PC ports, this statement suggested Nixxes was returning heavily to its roots in console development.
Even More Remasters, But Not Every Dream Will Come True
While this is indeed exciting news for fans of PlayStation, it’s key to temper your expectations. Unfortunately, some of the most requested remasters like Bloodborne may not be on the way. But there has still been no official word on a Bloodborne remaster to be included in Sony’s strategy, meanwhile… Despite all the work that Nixxes seems to now have on their hands as a result of being snapped up by PlayStation, one game that still eludes getting these next-gen upgrades is Bloodborne.

Regardless, with Sony´s increasing emphasis on remasters, more top Wii games may yet receive the visual upgrade. The Last of Us, Uncharted and God of War have already received remastered editions during the current console generation, so it seems probable we’ll get many more PlayStation classics overhauled for PS5 and PS6 in years to come.
What Is Next for PlayStation: The PS6 and Beyond
What we love about this news is the nugget that suggests a few of these remasters may go as far as PlayStation 6. Sony has not even officially confirmed the existence of a PS6, but it seems clear the company is planning for future generations of hardware. Re-imagining older games also serves two very important purposes – First, it keeps classic PlayStation franchises ever-present, and second, seeds the future library of games for PS6.

It seems that Nixxes Software – an important PlayStation-to-PC porting partner – is going to have an even larger role in defining the future of PlayStation content. Sony pushing remasters on new hardware, in other words, plays into a larger strategy by Sony to ensure that their back catalog is not rather left for dead.
What to Expect Next?
Although Sony has not yet disclosed the complete list of games it will be developing remasters for, the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered announcement offers hope to fans for further surprises. Sony’s existing franchises will continue to get the remastered treatment, likely with current-generation graphics and features for already-released titles old and new.
While the gaming community waits impatiently on more specifics, a tease of “major” remasters from a trusted Nixxes Software source would seem to suggest that important things are on the horizon for PlayStation.
Conclusion: PlayStation Remasters Have A Bright Future
Given that Nixxes Software has acknowledged it’s “got something going” on with more remasters, the future seems promising for PlayStation fans seeking new-old experiences. Not every fan request will be met (oh how the Bloodborne hue and cry continues…), but it’s plain to see that Sony has a long-term strategy in place for improving its best-loved titles across both PS5 and all PlayStation platforms to come.
Look for more official words then as Sony continues to slowly reveal its highly anticipated remasters.
