Is Sony gearing up to release a remaster for Days Gone? And that is the current rumor rocking the gaming world coming from a good source. The latest big rumour comes from Jordan Middler, a video game journalist most well-known for his WhatCulture videos – who reports that Days Gone is the next PlayStation 5 remaster. Mechless an official release date now or details, fans are left pondering is that this occurring and does this need to happen?
The Source of the Rumor
It was teased by Video Games Chronicle contributor and former BBC man Jordan Middler on Twitter, leading to swift conversation. His rumor wasn’t too detailed, but he carries weight in the video game industry. Obviously, for now, it is only Jordan claiming this so we may have to wait to see if he might bring the film back but regardless of if Sony has calculated on this or not as well many are still under belief that hearing about all the hype can only cause them to reconsider their decision.

Why Days Gone?
Sony Bend Studio released Days Gone in 2019 and it is an open-world survival horror set in the USA following an apocalyptic crash, where players are introduced to Deacon St. John and take to a third-person perspective. It managed to sell more than 7 million copies as of February 2022, which is nothing to scoff at. But it never quite got the universal critical praise as other Sony exclusives like The Last of Us or God of War.

Days Gone was a big project for Bend Studio, their first in more than 20 years. The team made a name for itself working on spin-off titles of popular PlayStation franchises that appeared on handheld consoles prior to that. Days Gone, which had received some mixed-reviews finally got its PC port this year and despite all that many of us wanted a sequel for it. Bend Studio pitched a sequel that was ultimately rejected by Sony.
Why Are Fans Skeptical?
OK, what is wrong with fans that Days Gone fans are not more enthusiastic if a remaster of it is coming to the market? This would get into timing and expectations. Days Gone launched just a year before the PlayStation 5 came out, with backward compatibility making the game playable on the PS5. Obviously there would be plenty bickering online about a remastered version for a game that is still relatively young and in working on modern hardware.
Sounds like what happened when the word got out there might be a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster. This angered a lot of gamers who believed that Sony was spending too much time remastering relatively recent titles not giving us old fan favourites and new games instead. If anything, the backlash for Days Gone might be even fiercer since the game does not have Horizon Zero Dawn-type popularity.
The Bloodborne Controversy
It also doesn’t help that another cherished PlayStation game, Bloodborne, does not have a remaster or has been ported to PC; since the 2015 release. For a while now, fans have been demanding that From Software create a Bloodborne Remaster and the absence of this project has caused many rumors. A couple of theories are being circulated – one is that the game’s source code went missing long ago in 2010 when everyone was moving on and getting Rift going, and another is of course someone had it but let their license slip a few years later.

Remasters, not so much for the fact Sony is doing them, are a sore point for many gamers. They are remastering days gone, instead of addressing the demand for titles like bloodborne. This gives off the impression that Sony is foolishly abandoning fan-requests to work on something a bit less important.
What’s Next?
As of now, Sony has not confirmed a remaster for Days Gone. We will have to wait and see whether this rumor has any truth to it, but we could definitely see the gaming community being split about a new installment if an announcement does come out. Now, the question becomes whether or not this remaster offers enough improvements to make it worth re-playing on PS4 or if PlayStation fans should feel rather blasé.
Meanwhile, Days Gone loyalists could still have fun diving back into the game with enhanced visuals and possible additional features. But perhaps the rest of the audience may feel this merely an eye sore in a long list of unnecessary remasters (Where’s Bloodborne?
More information will be coming soon, so we can expect to hear more about an Octane in the near future if this rumor is anything to go by.
