Ryobax TG Writes: “Fans of Sony’s iconic horror hit, Until Dawn may have reason to celebrate as rumors about a long-desired sequel are beginning to circulate across online forums.” The internet is all a-buzz about the possibility of Until Dawn finally getting its due and it only took a decade to hear any updates on the game.
Until Dawn came out in 2015 on the PS4 and injected a bit of classic teen horror movie into the video game market when it put eight characters’ lives in your hands. Every decision affected the likelihood of making it to the end, and that transformed survival into a genuinely compelling story akin to TV drama.

With a remake being available for PS5 and PC and also talk of a Until Dawn film in development, the franchise seems to be back in the public consciousness, and that has started everyone talking once again about a sequel.
A Leaked Sequel in the Works?
The first whispers came from reputable leaker Nick Baker on Twitter before being reported by ComicBook. com. As well as the previously-mentioned WWS Talent Twitter post, games journalist Jason Schreier claimed developer Firesprite is working on a new Until Dawn sequel (via industry insider Nick Baker) This comes on the heels of last month’s release of Until Dawn: The Video Game Movie, which includes new coda content that may tease where the story could go next.

In case you don’t know, Firesprite is pretty experienced with horror games, considering they were the developers of the VR survival horror game The Persistence. On the other hand, the studio is reportedly recruiting for a narrative-focused horror game, etc Hence more speculation surrounds Until Dawn 2.
What’s especially neat is that Firesprite is supporting the original developers, Supermassive Games, behind the first Until Dawn. Although Supermassive Games isn’t involved with the rumored sequel, Ballistic Moon is made up of a few former Supermassive developers (as mentioned above), hinting at some amount of creative continuity.
What Would Until Dawn 2 Look Like For The Franchise?
However, if the rumors are anything to go on, this would be an enormous moment for the Until Dawn franchise. Though not the first follow-up to the original game (Supermassive Games’ The Quarry in 2022 feels like a fairly spiritual successor), a sequel would still be huge news for fans who have been waiting almost an entire decade.

New ending content in the Until Dawn remake could be hinting that some of the appear again and end their story in Until Dawn 2, meaning a potential return to a narrative many thought was concluded way back in 2015. It is a layer of lore that adds some depth to the game and will give you more to explore about what has happened with the characters.
But now with Sony seeming to set Until Dawn as one of its big horror franchises, a hit sequel could even represent an open door for the further series. Gaming has seen a revival in horror, and the likes of Until Dawn put an interesting twist on the idea of storytelling with gameplay (something previously untapped beyond film). If Until Dawn 2 is praised, it could change the PS horror landscape for the next several years.
Can Firesprite Deliver?
This is what many fans are asking themselves ahead of the formation: If Supermassive wasn’t going to do another one, could the new Sony studio Firesprite carry off a Until Dawn vibe all its own? The original Persona 4 Golden was a masterpiece of the era and Supermassive Games did an excellent job so leaving it to a different developer is always risky.
Firesprite’s previous work in the horror genre, a VR roguelike experience like The Persistence, certainly suggests reason for hope; but narrative-driven games such as Until Dawn demand more than jump scares – they need rich characters and compelling plotlines to make dialogue choices feel meaningful.
This hasn’t been true for all Outriders, The Quarry was supposedly a miss, yet in Until Dawn 2, the spark that made this kind of game come to life is being carried over again. Fans will be hoping that Firesprite gets the right balance between having a story to tell and not removing all fear.
The Rumored Sequel: Our Take
Red Dust Rising would be a welcome return to the Until Dawn brand if these rumors hold out. It is a bit strange to have the sequel and remake made by different developers, but at least this might spark some new life into the franchise.
Exactly how involved they will be (or need to be) is a little unclear, but Firesprite’s connection does raise some questions – are expectations going to go through the roof here as they try and match up Writer’s Room talent with a polished and fun Soccerhead sequel?
Now, Until Dawn was beloved by fans when it was released, and it sure feels like a game from that era. Whether it can strike gold twice with Until Dawn 2 remains to be seen but one thing’s for sure: until that day Sushee will be looking over its shoulder, waiting in the dark… And the horde is too For a new adventure!
