Until Dawn Remake Headed to PS5, PC in October 2024

The long-awaited release date for the much anticipated Until Dawn remake has finally been announced by Sony, which had fans buzzing with anticipation after months of speculation. Fans have been asking what the deal was with it after a little teaser back in January of this year about Super Cruise, but otherwise radio silence.

Until Dawn

But it was during the May PlayStation State of Play stream that Sony and developer Ballistic Moon showcased a brand new Destroy All Humans: The Horror Story gameplay trailer, confirming once more that this “rebuilt and enhanced” version of the horror classic is headed to PS5 (and PC) on October 4th.

An Updated Horror Gaming Experience

The remake of Until Dawn is designed to be scarier than ever before and features physical-based lighting. Here’s the official description of what these changes entail in Until Dawn on PS5 and PC: “Rebuilt and enhanced for PS5 consoles & available to buy separately now on PC, Until Dawn invites you to relive your nightmare – all over again. immersing yourself into a cinematic slasher horror where every choice can be life or death.

According to the developers, these changes are intended to recapture the eerie and desperate tone of reintroducing visuals overhauled in Unreal Engine 5, a revamped prologue area as well as new collectibles.

More Functionality for a New Generation

8: The introduction of the “Stay Calm” system is a highlight in the remake, Where the original game’s “Don’t Move” mechanic simply demanded a seed of faith in one’s body, this addition provides an option for third-party peripherals that lack gyroscope functionality as well as offering a new layer of challenge to returning players.

They revealed this feature as part of a new PlayStation Blog post, where the developers talked about how they want to bring the game… into 2020 and make it more accessible for gamers in general.

Working alongside the game’s new art style, these features aim to make sure that Until Dawn is not just what it should be for fans of the sleepaway camp-inspired original, but also something special for those who have yet to experience its twisted tale.

Back Home on Blackwood Mountain

Way back in 2015, we first met Until Dawn and the genre combining a cocktail of interactive horror with cinematic storytelling. The game asks players to lead eight young adults into a nightmarish event on Blackwood Mountain, with every decision shaping the narrative. Amongst the title’s best-known features was its butterfly effect system — a revolutionary concept at that time, whereby choices would have far-reaching effects down to changing how the story played out later on.

The original release of Until Dawn received positive reviews, with praise for its strong character performances, choice-driven gameplay, and butterfly effect system that leads to choices causing consequences within the game. In 2016, it won the Best Original Property award at the British Academy Games Awards. The remake looks to build on this legacy with an even deeper and more immersive, visually stunning experience that enlarges the original while remaining true to its essence. The result introduces new surprises for newcomers as well as its prodigious legion of diehard fans!
