With a November launch slated, the PlayStation 5 Pro is also becoming some type of hype machine for upcoming feature boosts in new games as well as enhancing existing titles – like those released first on PS4. The PS5 Pro will provide a substantial visual upgrade to PS4 games, which should make this next-gen console essential for fans of older titles, so says the Sony project manager.
Overhauling The PS4 Library: The Biggest Subsequent Gen Tech Upgrade To Its Looks Since Ever
Official PS5 Pro upgrades have already been confirmed for over 60 games, such as Alan Wake 2 and Madden NFL 25 among many other beloved titles, with each promising enhanced ray tracing support, faster frame rates, and an overall higher quality of experience from release going forward.
But the more surprising aspect is how it affects PS4 games. Sony recently confirmed the existence of the PS5 Pro; during an interview with Sony’s Toshimasa Aoki, Senior Principal Product Manager, he described a feature called Image Quality Boost for PS4 games, which will debut alongside the PS5 Pro.
In an interview with Japanese gaming site 4Gamer, Aoki said this will lead to elevated frame rates for PS4 games that have variable frame rates, with the end result being a more seamless and visually engaging experience. The Image Quality Boost is a setting that can be toggled on or off, and lets the player decide how they want their visuals to look. With that bump comes confirmation that some of the best-looking PS4 games will shine even brighter on the PS5 Pro.

The power of backward compatibility
The PS5 Pro is very interesting in that it offers backward compatibility with PS4 games. Most next-gen consoles provide backward compatibility, however, the PS5 Pro will improve older titles instead of just running them. This should make the PS5 Pro an appealing upgrade for gamers who have invested in a large library of PS4 games-you won’t need to leave your game collection behind to enjoy improved visuals and smoother performance.
The Image Quality Boost is designed to give classic PS4 experiences new life, with enhanced textures that could make the likes of The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima appear as current games. For anyone still anchored in the PS4 era or happy that way, the pros and cons of the PS5 Pro make it almost universally appealing.
Developers Applaud PS5 Pro Performance
Although everyone is looking forward to the new console, devs are fans of it too. Mr Martin Griffiths, an engine programmer at No Man’s Sky had recently taken to Twitter to pour his excitement about the larger and hotter PS5 Pro.
In a press release, Griffiths described the PS5 Pro as “an absolute powerhouse” and mentioned that it has been great holding the console on hand during the development. With the image being a screenshot of No Man’s Sky but with the PS5 Pro lighting and texture enhancements, it was equal parts hilarious and visually impressive.

A lot of developers are currently preparing for the release of the PS5 which will bring their games to take advantage of what the next-gen console has to offer. Upcoming titles such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will reportedly be fully optimized for the PS5 Pro, which will launch within the next 10 years, offering a performance level above its predecessors that players can truly immerse themselves into their latest games.
Is the Price Tag Worth It?
While many fans are excited enough to pre-order the PS5 Pro, others see through all of the chatter. The almost $700 cost is one of the highest prices for a console in PlayStation’s 30-year history. Adjusted for inflation, it even tops the price of previous PlayStation consoles which has caused some gamers to think twice about next-gen.
While the PS5 Pro has less than a month before its release, it is not sold out in big markets like the U.S. and the U.K. which makes some analysts think that the high price might be burdening customers. The Verge’s Tom Warren even went on to say that the price might be off-putting for most players, despite impressive improvements on the console.

Verdict: Game Changer for all Generations
The cost may be a sticking point for some, but the ability to improve the performance of not only next-gen games but also those from previous generations without users having to do or twiddle with their settings should make the PS5 Pro an attractive proposition. The PS5 Pro is all about ensuring your favorite PS4 games take advantage of a wealth of next-gen features, enhancing current-gen experiences in a manner that no pre-existing console is capable of matching.
If you like high-performance visuals and expect the best from both new and past games, it looks like PS5 Pro will be a big one. Only time will tell if it’s worth its high cost, but one thing is certain: The Pandora Box Wave game console will make waves in the world of video games.
